Decription
In the heart of Crotone’s villa stands majestically a specimen of the Magnolioid Fig, known scientifically as the Ficus macrophylla Desf. former Pers. A veritable green giant that, at 15 meters high, dominates the park landscape at an elevation of 10 meters above sea level.
It is not only its grandeur that is striking, but its form and bearing, which testify to its history and longevity. The sturdy and gnarled trunk has a circumference of as much as 480 centimeters or so, telling through its bark the decades that have passed and weathering the seasons. This Magnolioid Fig is not just a tree: it is a sentinel of time, a symbol of strength and nature in the midst of the city, a reminder to preserve and enhance our green spaces for future generations.
Its monumentality lies not only in its size, but also in its ability to be a landmark, a meeting place, a pause for reflection for all who visit the municipal villa.
