Part of the Santa Chiara monastic complex, the original structures date back to the late 1300th century, while the current building reflects additions from the 1700th and early 1800th centuries.
The church, in Baroque style, was consecrated in 1774. The convent hosted the daughters of noble families of Crotone: this is evidenced by the many noble coats of arms (Galluccio, Ventura, Sculco, Lucifero) affixed to every gift offered to the monastery.
The church of Santa Chiara is the jewel of the city's historic center, especially for the rich heritage it houses, including a cabinet containing a pipe organ, built in 1753 by Tommasio De Martino.
